Mouse Trap Rules
Build the crazy contraption, race around the board, and try not to get caught! Here’s how to play Mouse Trap, the classic game of fun, suspense, and plastic cheese.

What's in the Box?
- Game board
- Plastic mouse tokens (one per player)
- Cheese pieces
- Building parts for the mouse trap contraption
- Die
- Instructions
How to Set Up
- Lay out the board and give each player a mouse token and a cheese piece.
- Place the trap parts and building spaces nearby.
- Youngest player goes first (or whoever can squeak the loudest!).
How to Play
- Players take turns rolling the die and moving their mouse clockwise around the board.
- When you land on a build space, add a part to the mouse trap contraption (follow the steps in order).
- Collect cheese when you land on a cheese space.
- When the trap is fully built, you can try to catch other mice! If you land on the 'Turn Crank'? space with another player’s mouse in the trap zone, turn the crank and watch the machine go (will it work?).
- If the trap catches a mouse, that player is out. If not, everyone survives for another round!
- Play continues until only one mouse remains uncaught. That player wins!
Tip: Work together to build the trap, then try not to be the one standing under it!
Winning the Game
The last mouse left uncaught is the champion — and gets all the cheese (well, at least in spirit).
Classic House Rules (Optional, for Extra Laughs)
- Cheese Swap: Trade cheese with other players for favours or safety… if you trust them!
- Double Trap: If two mice are in the trap zone, you can try to catch both at once.
- Squeak-Off: If you escape the trap, you must do your best mouse impression before moving on.
Did you know? Mouse Trap first hit the shelves in 1963 and is still delighting families with its wacky inventions 60+ years later!
Quick Reference
- Players: 2–4
- Age: 6 and up
- Average play time: 30–45 minutes
For best results, build the contraption carefully — the fun is in watching it work (or not!).
