What is Risk?
Risk, subtitled 'The Game of Strategic Conquest', is the classic retro board game where you scheme, plot, and wage battles to rule the globe. The original game pits 2-6 players against each other in a race for world domination, all played out on a colourful map of the world with armies, dice, and plenty of betrayal. Wikipedia calls it a game of "diplomacy, conflict and conquest"-but let's be honest, the diplomacy usually lasts about three turns!
Fun Fact: There are themed editions for every taste-Risk Peaky Blinders, The Lord Of The Rings, The Walking Dead, Warhammer, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, and more!
History of Risk
- Created in 1957 by French film director Albert Lamorisse as "La Conquete du Monde" ('The Conquest of the World').
- Parker Brothers acquired the rights in 1959, rebranding it as Risk: The Continental Game.
- Later editions became Risk: The Game of Global Domination.
- Now published by Hasbro, Risk is a staple of retro gaming and family conflict worldwide!
How to Play Risk - Rules
- Players take turns placing armies and attacking opponents to capture territories.
- Attack is resolved by dice rolls-highest roll wins the battle, but luck is only part of the story.
- Hold continents for bonus reinforcements each turn.
- Gain Risk cards by conquering territories-trade sets for powerful reinforcements.
- Form alliances, break them, and betray at will-only one player can rule the world!
- Game ends when one player controls every territory on the map.
- 2-6 players (classic), with some editions supporting teams or missions.
