Risk Rules

Deploy your armies, conquer the world, and outwit your friends! Here's how to play Risk, the legendary game of global domination and alliances.
Risk classic board game

What's in the Box?

Setting Up

  1. Each player takes a set of coloured armies.
  2. Shuffle the territory cards and deal them out equally. Players place one army on each of their territories.
  3. Take turns placing the rest of your armies, one at a time, on your territories.
  4. Put the deck of Risk cards near the board. Choose who goes first.

How to Play

  1. Start Your Turn: Count the number of territories you control, divide by 3 (rounded down), and place that many new armies. Bonus: control an entire continent for extra reinforcements!
  2. Attack: Choose a territory you control and attack an adjacent enemy territory. Announce the number of armies you're attacking with (up to 3), and the defender announces how many they'll defend with (up to 2).
  3. Roll dice: attacker rolls up to 3 red dice, defender up to 2 white dice. Compare highest dice: highest attacker vs highest defender, then next highest. Loser(s) remove armies.
  4. If you conquer a territory, move at least as many armies as you attacked with into it. You may keep attacking as long as you like on your turn.
  5. Fortify: At the end of your turn, you may move armies from one territory you control to another, as long as they are connected.
  6. Risk Cards: If you conquered at least one territory, draw a Risk card. On your turn, you may trade in sets of cards for extra armies.
Tip: Don't spread yourself too thin – and never trust a neighbour who says, 'I won't attack you this turn.'?

Winning the Game

The last player left in control of the world map wins – or complete your secret mission, if playing with Mission cards!
